Gamay

75cl * 13.5% ABV * Beaujolais, France

This is a serious and impressive Cru Beaujolais (the Crus being the 10 best villages in Beaujolais) which has been in the Beaune negociant Louis Jadot stable since 1996. Moulin á Vent is now referred to as the King of Beaujolais, made more akin to the wines of Burgundy 'proper' rather than down in Beaujolais. This is age-worthy Gamay that can compete with some of Beaune's finest. The Clos de Rochegrès covers 9ha, the geological origin and soil composition are quite different from the Côte d'Or, which is why Beaujolais red wines are made only from Gamay grapes. The soil is quite light, made up of sand and a little bit of clay, lying on a bedrock high in manganese, that gives the wine its deep colour.

The 2018 vintage is being hailed as one of the finest to come out of Beaujolais. The wines are delicious and ready to be enjoyed.

Rich and structured with dark berry fruit compote, rose, milk chocolate and black tea elements. Lovely and ripe on the palate with a mineral undertone and fine, dusty tannins. Cellar for up to a decade. Pair with chicken or duck in a fruity sauce or even steak tartare.
