A recent trip to Argentina confirmed a long-held theory of ours that the most interesting Argentinian reds are often blends - this being a shining example. A (somewhat unusual) blend of 40% Malbec, the rest topped-up by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it offers complex toasted oak aromas on the nose (vanilla, almond and cocoa powder) with a full bodied but velvety smooth palate. Cracking with steaks cooked hard and fast over a roaring charcoal barbecue - or in the pan with the extractor on full whack. A staff favourite.
