Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier
75cl * 12.5% ABV * Kent, England
Gusbourne sources its fruit from 60 hectares of vines in Kent - on a south facing ancient escarpment in Appledore - and 30 hectares near Goodwood in West Sussex. Clay soils bring a richness to the wine, while the coastal influence add a distinct freshness and salinity.
Their Brut reserve is a blend of the traditional champagne grapes, with Chardonnay taking the lead. The 2022 vintage, shaped by a warmer growing season, shows a riper and more generous fruit profile than previous expressions. Three years on lees adds depth, texture and an autolytic character.
The wine shows baked apple and ginger-nut biscuits on the nose, and the palate is layered with ripe orchard fruits, lemon zest and toasted Kentish cobnuts, while a lively acidity adds lift and freshness. Typical of all their wines, there's a lovely saline minerality to the finish.
