This Tain l’Hermitage based winery was founded by Jean Orëns Ferraton in 1946 and continued by his son, Michel. Following an accident which left Michel Ferraton paralysed, the winery was purchased by Michel Chapoutier (a close friend of Michel Ferraton) in 1998 but the wine making team and vineyards continue to be managed completely independently.
The freshness and floral notes were a signature throughout the red wines of the range, although there was a distict variation in style and flavour profile across the Ferraton wines of the Northern Rhône.
This Saint-Joseph is beautifully fresh and elegant wine with raspberry, olives and black pepper on the nose. Full, fine tannins, red berry fruit currant leaf, tapenade and violets, with savoury, meaty hints on the palate.
