Torabhaig is the first distillery to be built on Skye in 190 years, and the second to ever (legally!) operate on the island. Since January 2017, they've been distilling in copper stills and fermenting in traditional wooden washbacks, ensuring complexity of flavour. They are also known for their exploration of peat to imbue subtle, elegant smoke flavours into their whisky.

They began their Legacy Series to document the evolution from their 'house style' to their 10yo. "The 'Sound of Sleat' is the fourth expression of this series, named after the strip of sea behind the distillery that divides Skye and the mainland. It is a single malt, peated (78+PPM) whisky matured in a combination of American oak casks and ex-Bourbon casks. It is bottled at 56% with no chill-filtration or colouring. On the nose, it shows notes of orange, apricot, popcorn, tobacco, boiled sweets and vanilla; the palate reveals oak spice, sweet bonfire smoke, sea salt, white pepper and honey.

“Our journey to a 10-year-old expression continues and for Sound of Sleat we’re returning to a classic ex-bourbon cask profile, enhanced by the addition of a crisp spice edge from the new American oak barrels, without losing the elegance and intricacy our fans have come to expect from a Torabhaig whisky. There is plenty of oak spice, citrus and maritime saltiness alongside a newfound waxiness we’ve discovered as our spirit continues to mature. This expression is a journey in itself as each wave of flavour washes in.” Neil MacLeod Mathieson, Torabhaig whisky maker
