Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot

75cl * 13.0% ABV * Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux

This large estate of 131 acres has been run brilliantly by the Bonnie family since their acquisition a number of years ago. The quality of the white and red have soared to exceptional heights, and it is certainly still one of the more realistically priced wines of Pessac-Leognan and classified crus.

The 2016 vintage was legendary for Bordeaux. Long and slow ripening has refined the tannins and developed complexity in the flavours and aromas, whilst maintaining plenty of freshness. Pair with beef carpaccio, and dishes such as tournedos Rossini, rack of lamb, veal paupiettes forestières or venison fillet with a coffee and amaranth sauce.

La Reserve de Malartic 2016 will see its peak between 2030 and 2033. However, it is very much enjoyable now, though ideally decant 2 to 3 hours before tasting.

Wine geek fact: Chateau Malartic-Lagraviere's flagship wine joined the star-studded line-up in Death on the Nile. Malartic features alongside world-class talent in the 2022 big-screen Agatha Christie thriller.

“2016 was such a great vintage, meaning that this is a brilliant year to head to the second wine for value and quality. There's clear depth to the rich fruit structure, full of poise and balance. …There’s so much to enjoy in this wine!… 2021 – 2034” 91 Points, Jane Anson, Decanter.com, May 2019

"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 La Réserve de Malartic features warm plums, baked blackberries and chargrill scents plus nuances of bay leaves, pencil lead and tobacco. Medium-bodied and packed with youthful black fruits, the palate features soft, rounded tannins and a lively finish." 89 Points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown – robertparker.com

"The second wine, the 2016 La Reserve de Malartic is a solid step back from the grand vin, offering a medium to full-bodied, charming display of dark fruits, earthy tobacco, and spice. It has plenty of Graves character and is ideal for drinking over the coming decade." 88 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
