The relationship between Pol Roger and Churchill dates back to a providential meeting at a luncheon given by the British Ambassador to France some months after the liberation of Paris. Churchill struck up an instant rapport with the beautiful Odette Pol Roger, as well as the beautiful champagne in his glass. Churchill's fondness for Pol Roger lives on in history and the house named their prestige cuvee after the great man in 1984.
This has an opulent golden hue and a rich, toasty nose. On the palate, white flowers combine with freshly baked brioche, as well as dried nuts and citrus zest. A long lingering finish suggests that this has fantastic ageing potential. Pair with rich game dishes, sweetbreads cooked with morels, or expertly sourced cheeses.
