Syrah * 75cl * 13.5% ABV * Northern Rhone, France
Jaboulet is best-known for its La Chapelle Hermitage, rightfully regarded by many as one of the world's great wines - its greatest vintages are some of the most sought-after and expensive. The Jaboulet winery was purchased by the Frey family (owners of Bordeaux's Chateau La Lagune) in 2006, who brought renewed energy to this great French viticultural family. The Thalabert Crozes-Hermitage is produced from a 45-hectare plot and is the producer's work-horse wine, having a very high quality, yet at a fraction of the price of the illustrious Hermitage. Deep and intense in colour, aroma and palate, this exudes dark cherries, baking spice and slightly funky animal notes. Powerful and plush with lovely ripe and structured tannins. Drink with robust stews, particularly those that contain bacon, as it loves Syrah!
