Trebbiano (pronounced treh-bee-AH-noh or “Treb” by the trade) may not be a grape you have heard of, but it is actually the most planted variety in the world. This is because the same plant has a number of names: Ugni Blanc, Clairette and confusingly Saint Emilion (like the region) in France. It is used from everything from making Brandy through white wine to bulking out cheap Chianti.
The wines of Gran Sasso are limey, fresh, clean and possess a lovely minerality and bite. We love them and more than one member of staff uses this as ‘house wine’ at home.
