Champagne Mandois is one of the few independent grower houses left in Champagne. Dating back to 1735, their 35 hectares of premier cru, organic vineyards supply 70% of its grapes - an unusually high proportion for a family-owned company. Claude Mandois, the ninth-generation winemaker, strongly believes in the use of oak barrels for making all his wines, but the wood gives a framing, rather than flavouring effect.
Only produced from Mandois' top Chardonnay vineyards in the best vintages, this spends 6 months in old barrels and 4 years on the lees in bottle. Bright and golden in colour with a subtle bouquet of citrus, pineapple and orchard fruit. Soft and mineral from the region's typically chalky soils, the palate is creamy and restrained with a hint of vanilla and toast on the finish. An ideal aperitif, this Blanc de Blancs will also pair successfully with simply prepared seafood and white meats.
