Pinot Noir
75cl * 13.5% ABV * Martinborough, New Zealand
A true micro-winery; the Ma Maison vineyard is a mere 7 acres and until very recently, was entirely planted with Pinot Noir (there’s now a few rows of Chardonnay). Founded by Pinot-phile dentist Edward Leung in the late 1990s, this is classic Martinborough Pinot Noir that is both made and run along the same overall style as a small Burgundy domaine - meticulous vineyard care, tiny yields from a tiny piece of land and a supreme exemplar of New Zealand Pinot Noir from the region most often hailed as making New Zealand’s most ‘classic’ (read ‘Burgundian’) Pinot Noir. The style here tends more to the savoury fruit style than the more obvious cherry/berry fruit of Marlborough or the blacker, more tannic fruit style of Central Otago. Still young, this wine will develop for at least another five years.
