Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot
75cl * 12.5% ABV * Margaux, Bordeaux, France
Les Hauts du Tertre is the second wine of the Grand Cru Classé Château du Tertre, made up of 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, with the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It is on par with the best of the appellation, but created to be enjoyable in its youth. The fruit is grown across 52ha of vines (with an average age of 40yrs) on gravelly hills. Everything is hand-harvested and vinified in plots before 12-15months of barrel aging.
The wine is beautifully round and subtly spiced, with smooth tannins and silky texture. It expresses intense black fruit aromas on the nose, which leads into an earthy, slightly mineral quality on the palate. The gravelly terroir has lent good structure to the wine, and the finish is persistent. Pair with roast lamb shoulder, beef tenderloin, grilled duck breast, porcini mushrooms, or Saint-Nectaire cheese.
