Stephane Magnien is a family owned estate producing top-quality Burgundian wines. This one in particular comes from their Premier Cru vineyard just below Clos de Lambrays, where old vines sit on clay soil. The ideal growing conditions of the 2017 vintage brought forth a wine that is both balanced and expressive, thus a brilliant expression of the terroir.

For the first time in the Domaine's history, Stéphane experimented with the use of whole bunches, including 15% in this vintage. The wine is fermented and aged in French oak barrels, with 25% new oak.

The result is a fresh, yet complex wine with purity and expression. It has wonderful aromas of red berries and woody spice characteristic of a good Pinot Noir. The tannins are fine and well-integrated, lending structure and precision. It is broad and velvety, yet elegant and refined. There is a bit of crunch to the fruit, and a subtle minerality on what is a long, persistent finish.

Serve between 16-18 degrees. Pair with rich, earthy dishes like duck breast, beef bourguignon, coq au vin, or wild mushroom risotto. Aged cheeses like Comté, Brie de Meaux or Reblochon will would also go nicely.

Drink now-2028.
