Domaine Etienne Sauzet owns some of the 'great' vineyards of Burgundy - including Les Combettes in Puligny and Bienvenues in Batard - and winemaker Benoit Riffault is now firmly established in his role and continues to impress year-after-year.
The original property was 12 hectares, established by Etienne himself, and subsequently, because of French law, divided amongst Etienne's children but the grapes are still mainly harvested from the family holdings. The estate went organic in 2006 and completely biodynamic in 2010. All is done in the ambition to produce top quality grapes and top quality wine.
94 Points, Charles Curtis MW Decanter Magazine, 2021,"Pleasantly ripe apple and floral notes. There is not too much tension, but the acidity is not really lacking - the wine is refreshing but not brisk. Well done. This is large cuvée - 12 parcels spread over seven lieux-dits. The grapes were picked on the 22nd August at pH 3.2. Lightly crushed and settled, then fermented in cask (15% new)"
90/92 Points Jasper Morris, 2021, 'The nose is a little more forthcoming than the Chassagne, with agreeable delicacy. Lovely soft suave and supple, delicacy and elegance but with a sense of muscle beneath. The extra ripeness makes this one of the more accessible 2020s so should drink well quite early.
91 Points, Wine Advocate, 2023, 'The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Village bursts with aromas of pear, white flowers and orange oil. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with racy acids and a long, saline finish, it has turned out very well.'
