Tempranillo

6 x 75cl * 14.0% ABV * Rioja, Spain

Macan Clasico comes from the slopes of Sierra de Cantabria in the Sonsierra region of Rioja, known for its terroir of alkaline sandy-clay soils. The 2021 vintage is marked by an outstanding quality of fruit, producing wines with a fresh and lively profile and vibrant acidity.

The growing season began with quite significant rainfall and was followed by a mild spring, ensuring frost-free bud break and optimal flowering and fruit set. Stable weather and mild temperatures continued during the harvest period. This wine is a field blend of Tempranillo and a touch of Garnacha, enhancing the wine's balance and complexity. The 12 months in barrel and 18 months in bottle add definition and refinement.

Drinking window: 2025 - 2040

Wine Advocate 95 points: The 2021 Macán Clásico comes from a fantastic year in Rioja; it was the second vintage where they used some Garnacha …  It has an herbal twist and a more Atlantic character, reflecting a cooler vintage. It's fine-grained, textured and chalky, with very fine tannins and great balance.

Jancis Robinson 17/20: The fruit rules over the wood. This is the most vibrant Vega Sicilia wine. Sweet tannin, accompanied by hints of violet and the impact of very black fruit with a high level of ripening. Graphite, pink pepper and hints of plum. It's a little light-hearted for a Vega Sicilia wine. Overall, friendly tannin, ample and very drinkable. The most approachable of Tempos Vega Sicilia’s wines.
