Merlot, Malbec
37.5cl * Vegetarian * 13.5% ABV * Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux, France
This Grand Cru Saint-Emilion comes from the historical estate of the appellation, Saint-Hippolyte. The vineyard is next to sister estate Château Capet-Guillier, and the two wines are made in the same cellar, by the same winemaking team led by Stéphane Derenoncourt. Both vineyards have existed from the 14th century, but since 2009 have been run by Antoine Moueix Propriétés, a producer with over a century’s experience on the Right Bank of Bordeaux.
The 2020 vintage for St-Emilion was particularly excellent. This wine shows a concentrated rich, ripe red and dark brambly fruit, alongside herbal notes and vanilla spice. It both structured and rich on the palette, with silky tannins and a balanced acidity. Subtle oak influence lends a hint of cloves, cinnamon and tobacco.
Drinking very well now, or otherwise cellar up until 2027. Would pair perfectly with a duck confit or grilled wild mushrooms.
