Owned by the Sichel family since 1961, Angludet is situated at the heart of the prestigious appellation of Margaux and surrounded by Cru Classé properties, including Angludet's sister vineyard, the more famous Château Palmer. Palmer, by the way, is one of those châteaux where the wine is sold by the bottle to us retailers, rather than the case - you know you're dealing with the 'big dogs' when that happens! Angludet would no doubt have been 'classified', as Palmer and other châteaux were in 1855 (Palmer is a third growth, but is often referred to as a 'super second'), but it was split up as part of an inheritance settlement and didn't qualify. Shame for them, but better for us and our pockets.
2010 was a standout vintage for Margaux, characterised by wines of balance and precision. This Angludet 2010 is a fine, elegant wine with intense fruit flavours, floral aromas, and notes of liquorice and cassis. Robust, well-integrated tannins lend to its aging potential. Drink now - 2038
'The 2010 Ch d'Angludet is exceptionally dark. Sweet liquorice notes – very pronounced! Smooth and polished with lots of tannin underneath. Some floral notes too. Cool, dry finish. Very interesting, well-mannered wine.' 17/20 - Jancis Robinson MW
PS beady eyed drinkers will notice that we no longer add the D' to the name (it used to be known as Château D'Angludet). I can find no reference as to why it's changed, it just has. That's France for you.
