Pinot Noir
75cl * 13.5% ABV * Burgundy, France
Pur Pinot Noir is an intriguing wine. It is a great Burgundian Pinot Noir at a reasonable price is probably the most shocking aspect at the moment. Burgundy, both red and white, has sky rocketed in price, so this wine is a bit of a best kept secret.
The main reason for this great value is that Stephane Magnien has sites across the Cote de Nuits, and sources grapes from Morey-Saint-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny to make Pur, hence being 'Coteaux Bourguignons'. By doing this he can source the best quality grapes, and this leads to the second intriguing point, that the wine is complex and concentrated. Utterly delicious.
This is a wonderful expression of Pinot Noir and a great representation of the Cote de Nuits. Ripe raspberry, red cherry abound mingling with the wonderful spices of Pinot Noir. There is the classic undergrowth character to this wine but something even a little more decadent like black truffle comes through. A classic Burgundy. Delicious.
