Pinot Noir
75cl * 13.5% ABV * Volnay, Burgundy, France
Volnay is located on the Cote d'Or between Meursault to the south and Pommard to the north. The Premier Cru vineyard of Chanlin is at the top of the Volnay hill and sits astride the ancient pilgrim's route, comprising one of the tendrils of the Comino de Santiago.
Like so much of the geology of Burgundy, Volnay is unique. It has a thin layer of red clay over chalk and limestone. Limestone which is always welcome in vineyards as it helps to bring minerality, balance and good acidity.
Expect a delicate wine but one that still sings with the classic beauty of Pinot Noir, expressing, violets, red fruits (cherries and plums), spices and the savoury finish.
Although hailed as the most delicate of the Burgundian reds this wine is perfectly matched to pair with some great dishes. A delicate poultry dish like a Poussin or Quail are perfect but also don't be afraid to pair this with a good river fish, such as rainbow trout or perch.
This wine will be drinking beautifully but it will age well. Drink: Now-2032
