If you took a quick drive down the country roads around the Coudoulet, you'd be forgiven for thinking that amongst the wizened low vines were potatoes all over the fields. However, these are the famous 'Galets Roulés' various shaped white rocks that had been a part of the ancient river bed in the area and they are significant because they retain the daytime heat and release it to the vines in the cooler night. This is particularly beneficial during the spring and aid with that first growth.
Crystal clear and glimmering with green and gold highlights, 2020 Coudoulet White opens with a very fresh nose with captivating, particularly floral aromatics. In the mouth it is light, lively, and has backbone, with superb balance and a touch of acidity.
92 Points, James Suckling, 'The freshness on the nose makes me think of spring flowers, but on the palate this is fuller and richer than the nose suggests. Wide spectrum of stone fruit aromas, from white peach to mirabelle, plus some candied fruits. Pronounced fresh character at the long silky finish. From organically grown grapes.'
91 Points, Wine Spectator, ' Lemon peel, citrus oil, white peach, quinine and jicama notes are allied to a steely spine, with flashes of verbena and savoury on the intensely focused finish. Distinctive and could probably use a touch of cellaring.'
