Reserve de la Comtesse is the second wine of the second growth Grand Cru Classe producer Pichon Baron Comtesse de Lalande. One of the original Second Growth estates in the classification of 1855, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande (or sometimes just shorted to Château Pichon or Château Comtesse) is now owned by the same family that owns Roederer Champagne. The 75 hectares (185 acres) of this vineyard border the property of Château Latour and stretch south of Pauillac towards the Commune of Saint Julien.

Relying on the best of traditional and modern methods, Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande built new winemaking facilities in 2013. For this wine, vinification happens entirely in large stainless steel vats, then after fermentation aging takes place in both new and old French oak for 12 months. This resulting wine epitomises the remarkable precision and balance of Pauillac with a silky tannic structure and an expressive aromatic complexity. Ripe black fruits, violets, cedar, tobacco and delicate spices dance on the nose and palate making this wine a perfect match for lamb, roast meats, chocolate and truffle. Best served at room temperature.

"Rose-petal, cassis-bush and berry aromas. Medium to full body, tangy acidity and a soft and velvety mouthfeel. Round and friendly. Second wine of Pichon Lalande. Drink in 2019." 92 points, James Suckling (Feb 2017)

"Deep, with a core of steeped plum, cassis and raspberry paste notes that are easily carried by a graphite spine, while anise and roasted apple wood details fill in the background. Shows lots of briary energy through the finish. Best from 2018 through 2026." 90 points, James Molesworth, (Feb 2017)

"The 2014 Reserve de Comtesse de Lalande has a very fresh and vibrant bouquet with lovely cedar-infused black fruit that sings of Pauillac-ness (apologies for the made-up word!). The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp and elegant with a keen line of acidity. This feels quite linear at the moment and perhaps the finish could have dealt more complexity commensurate with the aromatics. Yet there is bundles of freshness infused into this Deuxième Vin and there is a palpable salinity on the aftertaste. Drink Date 2018-2030." 91 points, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (April 2017)
