Merlot, Cabernet Franc
75cl * 13.5% ABV * St Emilion, Bordeaux, France
A subtle and finely textured Premier Cru Classe (B) with a minerally structure, layers of redcurrant, cassis and black cherries on the palate, finishing with a twist of white pepper, a hint of toasted spice, and a slightly smoky edge to the fine, soft tannins.
Pair with roast leg of lamb, pan fried duck breast or rare roast beef and herby seasonal vegetables.
Decant carefully to remove the sediment and leave to breathe for a couple of hours before serving. Drinking beautifully now - 2035.
"Blackberries and hints of spices and fresh herbs. This is so tasty. It has wonderful round and juicy tannins, with lots of fruit yet subtle and spicy, with chocolate and light coffee. So yummy. Hard not to drink it. This is a classic style of Canon, such as 1955 or 1959." 96/100 Points, James Suckling
"A super effort from Chateau Canon, this property, owned by the proprietors of the haute couture house of Chanel, has turned in a stunningly rich 2011 Canon with a full-bodied texture and surprising concentration and purity. It is a noble, intense Canon with sweet tannin, lavish concentration (atypical for the vintage), and a stunningly long finish. It should drink well for two decades, and will always be one of the major stars of the vintage. Bravo!" 94/100 Points. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, May 2014
