Pinot Noir
75cl * 13.5% * Côte de Beaune, Burgundy
One for laying down (your choice if it's in a cellar or a manger) for a fair few years yet, this premium wine from well-known vignerons Bouchard Pere et Fils is 100% Pinot Noir.
The name "Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus" refers to an old story. It is said that Marguerite du Saint Sacrement, the founding Carmelite of the "Domestiques de la Famille du Saint Enfant Jésus", predicted the birth of the king of France, Louis XIV, although his mother, Anne of Austria, was sterile. On the birth of the future "Roi Soleil", this exceptional vineyard, which belonged to the Carmelites, took on the name "Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus". In 1791, when all national property was sold, Bouchard Père & Fils put in a bid for the vineyard, situated in the heart of the 32 hectares of the Beaune Grèves appellation, of which it still has the monopoly today.
There's superb fruit and spice aromas with an oaky note on the nose. Intense, full and yet delicate on the palate, the wine has a charming velvetiness. It's a Pinot Noir that, with age, will come up with all sorts of layers of aromas and flavours; liquorice, pomegranate, cherry, oak, violets and a certain earthiness to name but a few.
2018 is hailed as one of the greatest years in Burgundy. The growing season was perfect from start to finish, and the bunches were not just concentrated but abundant too. Some say its the best vintage since 1947!
This will be delicious with plenty of meat dishes, game and venison especially, but also chicken in creamy sauces.
