Pinot Noir
150cl * 13% ABV * Waipara Valley, New Zealand
Pegasus Bay is a family-owned winery in the Waipara Valley, North Canterbury. The founder Ivan Donaldson planted the first vineyard in 1976 and went on to establish the brand a decade later with his wife Christine.
Traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques are used to create this rich and fruity wine. Bright ruby in colour, the bouquet a rich tapestry of both red and dark fruit, as well as savoury notes. Heady aromas of cherries, plums and pomegranate swell from the glass, flanked by a smouldering column of cinnamon, mushroom, truffle and leather. The mouthfeel is generous yet supple, with a pelt of velvety ripe tannins that adds structure and length. Well-judged acidity completes the perfect partnership, giving balance and setting up for a long and harmonious finish. Powerful and seductive in the Morey-Saint-Denis style.
Indulgently soft and round on the palate, it is ready to drink on release, but will reward carefully cellar for up to 7 years. Pair with duck breast in a cherry sauce.
