The first wine made by Esporão in 1985, now a classic, and made exclusively from organic grapes. The diversity of Herdade do Esporão, together with the different characteristics of the grape varieties, the soils, the maturity of the vines and the character of those who make this wine consistently over the years, results in a rich, intense but always harmonious wine.
The wine spends 12 months in American (60%) and French (40%) oak barrels and after bottling, is aged for a further 8 months in the bottle. Blackberry aromas, cocoa, dark chocolate, liquorice and a hint of black pepper abound on the nose. Notes of black fruit jam with black pepper and clove spices combine with notes of coffee, berries and smoky, woody cigar flavours on the palate. This is a complex wine with great structure and a lingering finish. Delicious.
