"New Zealand’s greatest winery" as decalred by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, Te Mata is New Zealand's oldest commercial winery. Dating back to 1896, it is now 3rd generation family-run. This estate is known for producing wines from grapes sourced from its own vineyards located in a selected spot in Hawke’s Bay, to the north-east of New Zealand's North Island - which has a unique maritime climate, much like Bordeaux. The estate's first plantings of chardonnay were on the Hill Block and in the site called '1892', one of the country's oldest continuous vineyard plantings. Te Mata Estate Chardonnay is a stunning and complex wine that reflects this unique terroir.
Vibrant gold in colour, the Estate Chardonnay offers rich aromas of ripe white peach, citrus blossom, and toasted oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied, creamy, and well-balanced. Layers of flavours that range from tropical and stone fruit to vanilla, honey, and spice, which soften into mascarpone and macadamia, with barrel-ferment notes of toast, biscuit and woodsmoke. The lingering and satisfying finish of Estate Chardonnay 2022 is fine and dry, marrying the wine’s fresh fruit acidity with just a flick of salinity – the lasting perfume of a perfect Hawke’s Bay summer.
