Verduzzo
75cl * 12% ABV * Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy
At the extreme north-eastern edge of Italy, in Friuli Venezia Giulia with the most prestigious wine-growing areas in the world, the Cantina Produttori Cormòns stands out. It was begun in the late 1960s thanks to the foresight of some Cormons winegrowers, who wanted to treasure centuries-old traditions. Passionate wine growers who maintained that the future of vines and wine was not linked to fashions, but to the terroir.
The Cantina Produttori Cormòns project focuses on the care of the vineyard, with a detailed code of conduct for the 150 members, in all 400 hectares of vineyards. Eight meteorological stations, in various points of the territory, record any climate change. The data arrives in real time in the computerized centre of the winery, where grapes are also screened to prevent any anomaly and to obtain homogeneous and high quality standards. A perfect mix of tradition and technology.
The Verduzzo grapes grow in a soil rich in limestone, phosphorus, potassium, and iron characteristically called "Ferreti". The hand-harvested grapes spend six-seven months on the lees and a year in large oval oak barrels. Aromas of rennet apple, pear and peach waft out of the glass and continue on the palate along with ripe persimmons and dried figs. This is a full-bodied dessert wine with a rich, silky texture. Recommended pairing with dry pastries and fruit tarts, crostoli, and gubana.
Serve at 8-10° in summer, and 11-13° in winter.
