Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot
6 x 75cl * 13.5% ABV * Pauillac, France
With a Château that’s found in the back streets of Pauillac, and in the shadow of its bigger brother Château Lafite-Rothschild, it’s fair to say that Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild has flown somewhat under the radar. With vineyards next door to Lafite, it was classified as a Fourth Growth in 1855 - the only Fourth Growth in Pauillac. But neglected for decades, when the Rothschild family purchased the estate, just 17 hectares of vines were planted on the 110 hectare property.
Managed by the same team as Lafite, with the dynamic Saskia de Rothschild and International Director Jean-Sébastien Philippe at the helm, they recognise the huge potential here, and are keen to showcase it as best they can. They are also officially in the process of organic conversion. The 2022 vintage soars.
"Intense, stately, with ripe and spicy dark brambled fruit flavours, blackberry and cassis, balanced by grippy tannins, crushed rocks, slate and cigar, which add texture and moderation. The serious face of Duhart does well in the vintage, keeping an upright tannic backbone." 94 points, Jane Anson (May 2023)
“The 2022 Duhart-Milon is racy and explosive right out of the gate. Ripe dark cherry, plum, cloves, licorice, menthol and mocha fill out the layers in a deep, wonderfully expressive Duhart.” 92-94 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
"Very Pauillac in its blackcurrant, dark chocolate and walnut husk character. Full-bodied yet compacted. Wet earth, mushroom, earth, black tobacco. Fine and intense tannins. Fresh and complex." 95-96 points, James Suckling (April 2023)
