Located on the boundary of the prestigious Margaux appellation, Cambon La Pelouse counts world-famous estates such as Giscours, La Lagune and Château du Tertre among its close neighbours. The terroir is composed of sandy gravels which provides effective drainage and ensures a consistent production of elegant, medium-bodied wines. The property has been shipping its wine to the UK since the 17th century and has been praised by Robert Parker as “one of my favourite estates from the southern part of the Medoc”.
The 2015 vintage is generous and well balanced, with a harmonious structure, silky tannins and a long finish. Offered here in a rare double magnum format (four bottles), which if anything has aided the maturation process even more. Aged in oak barrels for 12 months (50% new oak), this is a delicious, polished claret with excellent concentration. Cassis and blackberry fruits, hints of fresh coffee-bean and plum, with well-integrated oak which gives toasty vanilla, liquorice and caramel, and ripe, satisfying tannins. Pair with steak, game and cured cheeses.
Drinking Window: 2020 - 2028.
"Close to some of the top Margaux vineyards, this estate regularly produces some fine wines. This bottling is beautifully structured, firm with tannins and also generous with black fruits. A high percentage of Merlot gives a particularly ripe and juicy wine that will age over the medium-term. Drink from 2022." 92 points, Wine Enthusiast (April, 2018)
"Another little gem Cru Bourgeois is the 2015 Château Cambon La Pelouse which comes from close to equal amounts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with roughly 4% Petit Verdot. It offers a darker edge in its blackcurrant, underbrush, tobacco and earthy aromatics, is medium-bodied, beautifully concentrated, and has building tannin. It's absolutely worth seeking out and will drink nicely for a decade or more." 90 points, Jeb Dunnuck
"The 2015 Cambon La Pelouse is radiant and full of character. Silky tannins wrap around a core of ripe dark cherry, cedar, smoke, tobacco, grilled herb and licorice. Drink this juicy, inviting Haut Médoc over the next few years." Vinous (Feb, 2018)
"A friendly, plump style, with a blast of warm plum and blueberry compote flavors infused with melted licorice and pudding notes." JM, Wine Spectator (2018)
