Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot

75cl * 13.5% ABV * Margaux, Bordeaux, France

Bearing the surname of the knight (chevalier), Antoine de Lascombes, since the 17th century, Château Lascombes has been marked by the ten generations of owners who have shaped its history. Since 2011, it has been owned by the mutual insurance group MACSF. The wines at Château Lascombes are recognised as ranking amongst the greatest in the Margaux appellation.

Bordeaux in 2020 seems to have all the freshness that made the outstanding 2016 so appealing, but also combines the warmth and accessibility of vintages like 2009 - we can't get enough of this vintage, even if volumes are largely down. Lascombes, a Second Growth, is recognised as one of the jewels in Margaux's shining crown. A strong fruit core of spiced blackberry and raspberry coulis tinged with graphite gives this its longevity. Full and firm tannins will eventually soften and unfurl into a thing of beauty - but do give it plenty of time.

Drink 2026 - 2042.

"A château that is used to finding charm and exuberance whatever the vintage, and it has avoided overly concentrated flavours. There is plenty of charm to the cassis and damson fruit but they are a little heavy through the mid palate which emphasizes the grilled coffee and chocolate and adds bitter touches to the end of palate. Seriously." 92 points, Jane Anson (May 2021)
