You’re more likely to have tried this in Zahel’s own tavern in Vienna than anywhere in the UK yet, as little is produced by all accounts we’re lucky to get any at all! The Grüner Veltliner vines grow on the Laaerberg in the south-eastern wine-growing region of Vienna. Influenced by the mild climate there between the Leitha Mountains and the thermal region, the grapes reach a particularly high level of ripeness.
This super rare wine - just one single 600 litre barrel was made - is classic Veltliner, with aromas of ripe apples and green pepper; crisp, lively, animating.
