Gaëlle and Jérôme both worked in the wine world before starting their own vineyard, Jérôme as ‘Régisseur’ of a domaine in the Côte de Beaune and Gaëlle was in charge of a wine laboratory. They began their joint venture in 2005 by renting a parcel of vines in the commune of Bouzeron, later buying various parcels of land in and around Mercurey and Santenay. It wasn’t until 2007 that the duo began to make and bottle their own wine. In 2011, after another winemaker retired, they took over 4 hectares of vines in Puligny-Montrachet to complete their estate.
The land is cared for and farmed sustainably by Gaëlle and Jérôme who aim to produce vin de terroir that emphasizes fruit above all—wood strictly plays a supporting role—through low yields, spontaneous ferments, and rarely any chaptalization at all. They typically do not fine their wines and filter lightly.
‘Champs Gain’ is a Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru that benefits from a high altitude terroir and limestone soils, instilling in its wines aromatic purity, richness of flavour and a clear minerality – all beautifully displayed in this wine. Butter, almonds, hay, vanilla and some smokiness combine with a fine minerality to great a stunningly good wine.
A classic pairing for creamy white fish or poultry dishes, seafood, pastas in a creamy sauce, but also rich pâtés and terrines.
