The Pinot Gris vineyards of Kumeu produce consistently high quality grapes which lead to wines of richness and complexity. Aromas have typical peach and stone fruit notes tinged with the expected floral perfume of Pinot Gris wines. It offers a lively texture on the palate particularly complementary with intensely flavoured dishes as one of the few wine styles that can handle the spiciness of chilli. Together with the sweet succulence of prawns, a nicely chilled bottle of Kumeu River Pinot Gris makes up a spectacular combination. Pinot Gris works excellently with chicken and seafood particularly and dishes with light fresh flavours such as Ottolenghi inspired dishes and halloumi salads.
Will Lyons, wine critic of The Sunday Times, included this vintage in his March 2022 round up of wine pairings for spicy food, saying “This outstanding Pinot Gris pairs beautifully with delicate lime and coconut-infused green curries. It’s subtle and restrained, with concentrated citrus notes and a satisfying dry finish.”
