75cl * 14% ABV * Rioja, Spain
Crushed parma violets, with stewed red berries and an inky concentration. Substantial and well defined, with a powerfully structured backbone. The nose is rich and intoxicating with pure, dark fruits and the mouthfeel is intense but perfectly balanced. There is an element of oak influence here from the 14 months that the wine spent in new French oak. However, this is a secondary characteristic as the structured fruit and natural tannins shine through. Artadi practices ‘respectful’ viticulture, based on organic and sustainable concepts, and stay faithful to the know-how of their ancestors in the area. This wine is one of our favourites and would make an excellent alternative to a southern Rhone red or similarly robust wines.
Pair with venison stew, oxtail, barbecued beef or lamb.
