Quintarelli is a legendary estate located in the hills north of Verona in the heart of the Valpolicella appellation. It is regarded by many as the greatest of all Amarone producers, and is known for its traditional deep, complex wines packaged with distinctive handwritten labels. The great man Giuseppe "Bepi" Quintarelli himself, known as il Maestro del Veneto, died in 2012 aged 84 but the winery remains family-owned and managed by his daughter Fiorenza.
In 2008 Quintarelli chose to declassify the Amarone juice into Rosso del Bepi, the final decision on which wine will be released is made just a few months before bottling. Rosso del Bepi is made in the so-called 'average' vintages when Amarone is not produced. In very difficult years neither Amarone nor Ross del Bepi is made. The Rosso del Bepi reflects the perfect example of a Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella blend and with it be declassified, Quintarelli can add a few other varieties for good measure. It is made from the best fruit of the vintage that is dried until Christmas, pressed and aged in Slavonian oak barrels for seven years.
Fragrant and expressive, the Rosso is a terrific wine for those who want to explore the Quintarelli style, without splurging for one of the flagship Amarones!
A hearty rich wine needs the meal to match - try with red meats, such as venison and beef.
Drinking now and until 2027.
