Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot
300cl * 14% ABV * Tuscany, Italy
This showstopper of a jeroboam comes from a handful of vineyards surrounding the exalted Bolgheri region. Guidalberto, from esteemed Sassicaia makers Tenuta San Guido, was first created in 2000 in order to show what the estate could do with Merlot and to offer drinkers a wine for younger consumption than the flagship Sassicaia.
A youthful and rounded nose oozing blackcurrant, cherry and damson, with framing mineral, balsamic and black olive notes. Tobacco, camphor and roasted coffee notes whirl around the glass. A gorgeous, showy wine that more than hints at its big brother, but for a fraction of the price. Drink to 2032.
"This is the wine that always delivers early in its life - and it offers real value, too," Nicolas Clerc MS.
