Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc

75cl * Organic * 13.5% ABV * Bordeaux, France

One never thinks of anything except the great red wine producing château of Bordeaux as being classed as 'First Growths', but this producer of Sauternes (the sweet white wine of Bordeaux, made famous by the likes of Yquem) is one of the original Premier Cru Classé estates from the 1855 classification.

Certified organic since 2011, the first Premier Cru Classé estate to do so, Guiraud has been a pioneer in creating its own 'conservatory of grape varieties' and forging its own independent path.

Made from old vines (on average about 30-40 years old), this wine is aged for approximately 18 months in oak barrels. The bouquet is precise, the texture is sensual, the smoothness has a somewhat mineral tone; Château Guiraud expresses elegant purity and aromatic refinement.

Tasting note by Xavier Planty, co-owner and estate manager:

'This vintage is simply extraordinary. With a beautiful yield, we have produced a powerful wine, very aromatic, that present a perfect alcohol-sugar-acidity balance and an impressive purity of botrytis. The 35% sauvignon Guiraud speaks again and makes this wine a brilliant freshness and aerial sugars. In the mouth, we find the pink grapefruit, lemon confit, notes of apricot, an opulence supported by a very roasted botrytis. An impeccable picking allows a wide definition of the growth and an obvious representation of the terroir of Guiraud; wine tight, straight and pure.'
