Champagne Mandois is one of the few independent grower houses left in Champagne. Dating back to 1735, its 35 hectares of Premier Cru, organic vineyards supply 70% of its grapes - an unusually high proportion for a family-owned company. Claude Mandois, the ninth-generation winemaker, is now at the helm and preserving the family tradition of making exceptionally good Champagne.
Designed as a tasting pack, this two bottle gift box contains Champagne Blanc de Blancs from two of the estate's terroirs, one from the north and one from the south, and the idea is that you can definitely taste the difference in the origin of the grapes.
Chouilly Grand Cru – Le Nord
This champagne comes exclusively from vines in Chouilly and reflects the exceptional character of the village, combined with the hallmark Mandois style. A light golden Champagne with an exceptionally fine mousse, the pretty floral nose shows aromas of white fruit and violets. The palate is very subtle and delicate with light notes of citrus fruit and mirabelle plums. The finish has the almost infinite length typical of Grand Cru Champagnes.
Vertus Premier Cru – Le Sud
Vines growing in the heart of Vertus are used in the composition of this Champagne, and it reflects the area’s terroir perfectly. The bubbles are light and the nose is instantly fruity with hints of gingerbread, revealing a lovely maturity. The palate is extremely luscious and expresses the richness of the terroir, which produces almost perfect wines.
This is a fantastic value gift pack for these Grand and Premier Cru Champagnes and the interest in trying the two adds to the fun. A brilliant festive - or indeed any time of year - treat.
