Rather remarkably, the Roblet family can trace their roots in Volnay to the 1600s. Theirs is a tiny six-hectare plot of densely planted Pinot Noir vines producing extremely low yields. The paterfamilias – Pascal – has been biodynamically farming since 1997 and only uses the tiniest spritz of sulphur for preservative purposes at bottling.
The 2015 Volnay Saint-François is a blend of several parcels that include fruit from premier cru vineyards, aged in 15% new oak. A delightful nose of raspberry and cherry, the red berries continue onto the palate along with some aromatic herbs.
This wine was awarded a star by the Hachette Guide des Vins and Jancis Robinson wrote about it in glowing terms too:
'Bright, confident crimson. Complex nose of macerated cherries and no excess tannins. Really gorgeous for drinking already. Log and vibrant, I’m sure it will age well but it’s already so welcoming! Just the job for satisfying delivery today. 2018 – 2028'
