Created in 1999 by Emile Balland, the estate where this 100% Pinot Noir is made comprises just six and bit hectares; one of which is in Sancerre and the rest in the Coteaux du Giennois. Grapes from 40 year old vines, planted in a tiny 0.13 hectare parcel in Bué's clay and limestone soils, are hand harvested and fully destemmed before maceration and fermentation.
On the nose there's a wonderful aroma of strawberries, hints of that clay soil and peppery, dry pomegranate. It's a medium-bodied wine and stays firm on the palate with a good dose of ripe fruit, followed by a really satisfying finish. A fantastic pair to peppered salami and charcuterie.
