6 x 75cl * 13% ABV * Haut Medoc, Bordeaux, France
Bordeaux in 2020 seems to have all the freshness that made the outstanding 2016 so appealing, but also combines the warmth and accessibility of vintages like 2009 - we can't get enough of this vintage, even if volumes are largely down. Sociando-Mallet is another underperforming, unclassed property that is enjoying something of a renaissance at the moment, due to recent expansion and modernisation in the winery and cellar. In typical Medoc fashion, this offers both grace and guts on its cassis-rich palate. Fine and sappy, almost peppery tannins linger. A delight in the making - and winning 92-94 points from Neal Martin. Drink 2026-2040+
James Suckling 94-95 points
Jane Anson (Decanter) 92 points
