Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot
75cl * Vegetarian * 12.5% ABV * Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux, France
Winner of a silver medal at the Concours Mondial des Féminalise 2016 (a wine competition purely judged by leading women in the wine world), this refined Saint-Emilion from the Saint-Hippolyte area of the appellation is characterised by its intense fruitiness, alongside hints of delicate hints of smoke from ageing in oak barrels.
The vineyard is next to those of Château Capet-Guillier, and the two wines are made in the same cellar, by the same winemaking team led by Stéphane Derenoncourt. Since 2009 the property has been run by Antoine Moueix Propriétés, a producer with over a century’s experience on the Right Bank of Bordeaux.
2014 will be remembered as a difficult vintage for Bordeaux's Right Bank. The growing season started well, with a mild winter and wet spring, and flowering occurred on schedule. The summer months were challenging, particularly the heavy rainfalls that fell during bunch development. In the last week of August, the warm, sunny and dry weather arrived and lasted right up until October, which saved the vintage. Tour de Capet's well draining sandy soils were able to fair the wet weather, and the addition of 20% Cabernet Franc into the blend delivered a lovely 2014 vintage that will drink beautifully from 2021 and beyond.
