2018 marks the 50th anniversary vintage of this iconic Italian wine - how fitting that such an occasion should be marked by such a wine. This is the third highest scoring Sassicaia from the Wine Advocate, following the legendary 1985 and 2016 vintages. A cool growing season gave way to warm, dry conditions before harvest, yielding perfect fruit. Plummy fruit is given lift by floral notes of violets and peonies and anise, whilst notes of chocolate, pepper and caramel lend a rich edge. Silky tannins caress the palate on the long, lingering finish. A vintage of finesse and charm, rather than power - and a real classic in the making. Drink from 2023.
