75cl * 13.0% ABV * Burgundy, France
Although he doesn't own any of the grandest vineyards in the Cote d'Or, Claude Marechal met Burgundy legend Henri Jayer in the 1980s and has since been producing fine, sustainable wines from his modest plots. Although still relatively unknown compared to his contemporaries, Marechal is rated at the same level as the greats - Dujac, Ponsot and Sauzet - in France's most respected wine guide, La Revue du Vin de France. The 2017s offer concentration and texture, dark and sweet-fruited with cherries and berries and fine, sappy tannins. Velvety. This is well above its relatively humble origins.
