A sumptuous Second Growth from one of the standout vintages of the past few decades - on top of this, on release Poyferré was regarded as one of the stars of 2009 (and the best performing Poyferré in memory). A deep, inky purple, it offers a hedonistic nose of pure blackberry and blueberry fruit, graphite and bitter chocolate. Opulent and rich, the multi-layered palate never seems to end. Drinking beautifully now, there is plenty of scope for maturation, with a peak around 2050. Traditional accompaniments to this would include a game pie or pithivier or well-hung grouse, but simply cooked roasted meat would also do a nicely.
