Chardonnay
75cl * 12.5% ABV * Kent, England
A recent study by East Anglia University to identify England’s prime spot for viticulture was stopped short for fear of its impact on land prices, but it did hint that the best place was near Canterbury... The 2019 vintage of this Kentish Chardonnay (grown from Burgundian clones,) has the laser-focus of Chablis, so if you happen to have a hankering for half a dozen native Whitstable oysters, this should be your go-to pour. The 2020 is a little more weighty, showing rounded citrus, white peach, pear and fresh bread notes - more Pernand-Vergelesses in style and suited to langoustine and barbecued white fish.
