Huia Vineyards was established by Claire and Mike Allan when they planted the first vines in the Wairau Valley in 1994. After winemaking experience at key Marlborough wineries (most notably Kevin Judd's Cloudy Bay) and extended stages at Veuve Clicquot and Taittinger in Champagne, they made it their mission to create wines of utmost quality in the most environmentally sustainable possible. Certified organic and farming biodynamically, Huia makes some of New Zealand's most elegant, handcrafted wines from a range of varieties, including Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The 2019 Dry Riesling was hand picked and fermented in stainless steel with a couple of puncheons. Floral and citrus notes welcome you on the nose and lead to exotic flavours like kaffir lime and lemon zest. The palate packs in lots of flavour, with concentrated, lifted zesty notes of multi-layered citrus and jasmine. Great length that ends with a vibrant mineral finish.
A beautiful match for prawns fried in garlic butter and chilli, with mint and coriander, or Kingfish crudo with citrus vinaigrette and a dash of parsley oil, or a simple lemon chicken bake.
