Please note that the 2019 vintage has now sold out. However, the shipment of the 2020 vintage will be landing mid-April 2021 - wines will be despatched as soon as we receive them. The winemaker says that he strives for consistency and that the 2020 is as similar as it can be to the 2019.
75cl * 13% ABV * Margaret River, Western Australia
The Margaret River region - a few hours' drive south of Perth - grows less than 5% of Australia's grapes, but produces an overwhelming proportion of its best wine. Back in the day, this wine was marketed as 'White Burgundy', such is its similarity to Chardonnay from Beaune. Broad and textural, flavours of grapefruit and pear are supported by some subtle, classy French oak. Just the thing for roast chicken, rubbed with garlic butter and thyme.
The 2019 was given 96 Points and named Decanter magazine's 2020 White Wine of the Year.
Reviews of the 2019 vintage:
Andy Howard, Master of Wine, Decanter (Feb 2021)
"Cool, slightly smoky example of Chardonnay. A fine line of acidity, purity of fruit. Fleshy good concentration, not a blockbuster style. Refined, elegant, very good potential for ageing. Zesty, refined and succulent on the finish." 2021 - 2026
Ronan Sayburn, Master Sommelier, Decanter (Feb 2021)
"Great nose of smoky struck-match reductiveness, Coche-like complexity and fleshiness. Saline and minerally, tight acidity but plush, ripe citrus fruit."
