Rod McDonald previously spent nine years at the helm at the Vidal Estate, where he was awarded Winemaker of the Year in 2006. He began searching for great vineyard sites for his next project and has ended up with some of Hawke's Bay's most desired plots. In an Alsatian style, this Pinot Gris brims with an attractive fruit bowl of pear, lychee and quince, muddled with almond and nectarine notes. This has a pleasantly textured palate that would suit a tartiflette (a warming Savoyard potato, cheese and lardon dish) or even a coconut milk-based curry.
