Tirecul is regarded as the premier property in Monbazillac by the likes of Robert Parker and other critics and its old vines, planted on the best hillside in the region, offer intensely concentrated fruit, characteristic of orange marmalade and blossom, honey and spice. Whilst the appellation is eclipsed by Sauternes, it can offer real bargains with its botrytized sweet wines. A classic pairing would be foie gras, but if that's not for you, any sort of chicken liver pate or fresh fruit dessert would be a treat.
